Sometimes the weight of responsibility can cause me to become robotic, checking boxes, doing the next thing. I become systems-oriented, seeking to do right, maintain routines. All good things, but I can take it too far and become rigid, overlooking beauty, spontaneity, and fun. I walked through Publix, grabbing what I needed for dinner, and felt this small nudge to head over to the flower section. I even thought, “I don’t have time for this.” But I walked over and was delighted to find such beautiful, ruffly carnations. The beauty calmed me and felt like a lovely treat.
My husband bought me red tulips last week. Tulips are fascinating to watch bloom, bend, and open! I have them on our kitchen table, and again, the joy of the bright, vivid blooms soften my edges.
My geraniums that I bought for my back porch last summer have spent the winter indoors and have continued to thrive and bloom! When I see a new flower forming, I feel giddy that these plants continue to produce and thrive, offering a generous showing of small petals.
We can view flowers as frivolity or as a needed gateway to joy, a grace from God, made by Him, pointing to His beauty and generosity. Fresh flowers, worth the dollars, offer us visual grace in the darkest throes of February. Pick a bouquet, savor, be reminded of His tender care.
Hi Aimee, so good to hear from you again, I love your posts and totally agree, busyness and efficiency are good things, but we all need the detour of God's Grace and beauty on a regular basis.
God bless you and your family,
Clare
Love this! Trader Joe’s is my favorite place to get flowers. You can arrange something beautiful for less than $15
